Lunar Eclipse

We had been talking about the upcoming lunar eclipse, but we were not getting our hopes up about a clear sky. We got one! On the way over to the gym for Collin's last basketball game, we saw the full moon and the CLEAR sky and knew we would be watching it later!
We came out of the gym about 7:30 pm, and the eclipse was just starting, there was about one half of the moon visible. So when we got home, Daddy got out our great telescope and set it up on the front sidewalk and we had an incredible view!
Mommy decided to take this chance and try out another setting on her new camera, got the tripod and had fun taking long exposure pictures. Each picture took about 10 seconds and stars were showing up in the photograph that we could barely see with our eyes. Here is our group and the Conrows taking turns looking through the lens.

Here is the moon right above the tree line. It already has the red glow. Just looking at it with our eyes, it was still very shadowed, but the exposure came through red.
There is the first star that was only visible to the camera for awhile.
I really like this one. With another star showing up it puts them all in the triangle shape.
It was to cold to stay out much longer. We came in and Sam had the idea to take some time-lapsed pictures. Set the camera to take one picture every 5 minutes or so and get the remaining parts of the eclipse. But by the time we found the directions on how to set the camera on p. 87 of the 245 page instruction manual, I was to tired to figure it out and had already thawed out and didn't want to go back out in the cold and dark.
So, I will study up on how to do that and the next time the opportunity arrives, I will know what I am doing!

Hi Sweetheart! Roy, Molly and I went outside to see the eclipse last night too. I had forgotten there was to be one, so we were very excited. Molly (also a budding photographer) took some pretty good pics too. I was a beautiful, clear night and since we have NO TREES in the entire neighborhood anymore we had a perfect view!
Power, cable and internet are all back up and running. A backhoe will come Saturday to clean up the debris from the yard. The insurance adjuster has come and I have completed my "loss" list to the best of my ability. It is hard to remember what you had when it is no longer here! The only thing I lost that hurts are ALL of my Christmas decorations. I am a nut about trees in every room of the house. So, for my birthday in December, everyone will get me ornaments for the trees!
Take care...send some snow our way!
We love you, Aunt Elisabeth and Uncle Roy
