Robotics Competition Day!

Meet MEC. The robot Collin constructed as part of the 4H club here. He and Kaitlynn and 2 others met a few times a month for 3 months building, programming and practicing with this robot for the regional competition against 3 other counties.

Above MEC is dropping a cartridge into a container.

Practicing on the mat a the college where the competition was held.
When MEC was slightly off, Collin would run over to the computer and program some slight adjustment. I was impressed!

The Yazoo County Team! Collin, Kaitlynn, Alex and Hallie.
One last practice run!
Nervous! Just seconds before the start time!
They ended up going first. The team had to make an oral presentation with participation from everyone.
They did really well!
Then they had to answer questions asked by the judges. Questions they were NOT given before hand. So they really had to think quick on their feet!
This is the score card each of the 6 judges had. Each team got to run the course twice.
And MEC is off! Nothing to do now but watch!
The judges are watching closely.....
Kaitlynn programs the robot for one of the tasks.....
GO MEC GO!! (MEC stands for mechanical, energy and construction)
Awaiting the results at the awards ceremony!
SECOND PLACE!!!! They did not think they would place at all because this was all of their first times and the other counties had competed before. They were THRILLED!!!!!!
The last week of April, Collin won first place in the regional archery competition. He just got his ribbon this week!
We are so happy we got involved with 4H. The kids are doing some really fun things!
